Guiding our mission to transform eye health across Africa through strategic focus and continental collaboration.
In pursuit of its mission, the African Council of Optometry is guided by six core objectives that shape every initiative, partnership, and policy we champion.
The greatest purpose of AFCO is to unite all member Councils under AFCO to advocate and advance the development of eye and vision care in the Continent and across the World.
These objectives form the foundation of our work — ensuring that optometry across Africa continues to grow in stature, reach, and impact. From advocating at the highest levels of government to building capacity at the grassroots, each objective represents a critical pillar of our continental strategy.
To promote communication and exchange between all member Councils and to maintain effective collaboration across the African continent and beyond.
To represent African optometric organizations at the World Council of Optometry and other international bodies, and participate in their governance.
To maintain, promote and protect the visual welfare of the peoples of Africa through advocacy, education, and accessible care.
To preserve professional status by promoting Standards of Practice and Ethical Code of Conduct amongst registered optometrists across Africa.
To facilitate deliberations to develop public opinion on vision and eye care matters, raising awareness and driving community participation.
To promote and protect the collective interests of its membership in good standing across all African regions.
Through these core objectives, AFCO has achieved remarkable milestones in advancing eye health across Africa.
